Whether you are working from home or simply self-isolating yourself during this uncertain time, your energy bills are set to go up. It is predicted that an extra £52 million a week will be spent on energy bills by UK households as we stay home. Whilst there are energy saving measures and upgrades should apply for, such as cavity wall/loft insulation, boiler upgrade to improve your home’s energy efficiency, there are plenty of things you can do today that will save you a pretty penny whilst we’re self-isolating.
Our recommended energy saving tips include:
Unplug electronics that are not in use. Small appliances such as chargers, toasters, laptops, entertainment systems do use energy even when not in use. So switching off the power at the plug, could save you around £60 a year.
Switch to eco mode. Setting your dish washer and washing machine to eco friendly energy saving settings can save up to 20% of energy.
Switch off the lights. Ensure that you let in as much natural light into your home as possible, that way there’s no need for desk lamps etc. Turn off the light even if you leave the room for a few minutes.
Just these simple tweaks that everyone can do could save you quite a bit of money! And whilst you’re making these small changes you should also apply for our energy efficiency grants that will further help you with energy efficiency of your home, lower your energy bills as well as reduce your carbon emissions.
